The Golden Age of yachting in the 1920's with the J's, the 23metres,
the M' class and the big American schooners saw owners racing in the
Solent, the Clyde and Harwich Harbour. Now the Big Boat scene has moved
to warmer waters, the Mediterranean and the Caribbean being the most
popular venues to witness the revival of Big Boat racing. These old
Classics are a finite resource and the first flurry of restorations
that gave us Endeavour, Velsheda, Cambria, Marriette, Moonbeam etc.
has slowed to a mere trickle as that finite supply dries up.
The
revival of interest in 'Big Class' racing has encouraged the growth
of regattas at some of the most beautiful venues in the world and
as a consequence
the building of new large Classics. The popularity of these events has
driven the development and production of so many beautiful yachts
that it is true
to say that in reality the Golden Age of yachting is NOW.
Spirit
Yachts has been at the forefront of this movement, designing and
building
beautiful modern classics for over twelve years with 31 launchings. We
have now been commissioned to design a yacht to race with the 'Big
Class' and
the result is the beautiful Spirit D130. What does the 'D' stand
for?...... Distilled.
This yacht is the pure essence of all that has gone before but brought
up to date with the most modern of contemporary design and technology.

Spirit D-130
